The Cool Side

On Saturday night I stopped by Sonic to get a drink and something for Steve to eat. It happened to be 8:00 in the evening and I forgot that Sonic was a hang out place for small town teenagers. I was a teenager in a small town and a flood of memories washed over me in just a matter of seconds.

I pulled into Sonic and parked on the nerdy side. Yes, Sonic has a cool side and a not so cool side. If you did not know this, then chances are you have been parking on the wrong side. (wink. wink.) I was not feeling very cool with my hair that hadn't been washed in two days, my sloppy t-shirt, and my smudged mascara. I felt the nerdy side calling my name, so I parked and watched the young ones from afar.

As I sat there waiting for my order I reminisced back to my own high school days. Sonic was often the place to be. Tailgates down. Cars turned off. Music up loud. Laughing. Watching cars go by....wondering who was with who inside those cars that went by. We would cruise town and Sonic was one of the most popular places to turn around and then head back down the strip. If your friends were there, then you'd stop and hang out. If they weren't then you'd keep going without even making eye contact. Oh, high school. The drama. The simplicity. The cool side.

We go to Sonic probably at least once a week, at night, and actually get out of our cars and sit at the tables. Teenagers usually show up and sit right along side of us. Does that mean we are on the "cool side"? Hope so! :) How was labor day?

I totally remember your cool side lesson when we were in college. I have made it my personal mission to educate those around me on Sonic coolness. :) Miss you friend!!!!

I am pretty sure I was on the cool side in high school. Now I am on the side that looks like no one will see me so I can just sneak in and sneak out.

Shoot! I don't know what the cool side is at Sonic - and I go all the time. Someone enlighten me - please! I live in a little country suburb now - so I guess I really need to know.

Sounds like a Carrie Underwood scene and song. Send her the idea of a nerdy side to sonic! It may become a hit!

Okay y'all, from my experiences with Sonic and thinking I was somewhat cool in high school this is what I know....the cool side of sonic is NOT the side when you first pull in. You must drive all the way around to the other side and park, thus making you cool :) It is important that you are on that far side b/c you can see everyone that pulls in after you. Don't ask about the Sonics that have an additional row to park in...that was before my time.

YES!!! We are safe! The picnic tables we sit at are on the "cool" side. I was getting a little nervous. I'll have to share this with Conn. :)
